House & Personal Safety & Security

Please ensure all of your guests are familiar with the following points which may help to reduce the risk of accidents:

  • BBQ – Please check the gas is switched off when you have finished using this.
  • Carbon Monoxide – There are carbon monoxide detectors alongside both wood burning stoves and the boiler. If they don’t bleep when tested please ask the Housekeeper to change the batteries.
  • Cooking Safety – Please use oven gloves/ towels to avoid the risks of burning. Sharp knives should be handled safely.
  • Courtyard Access – The courtyard is accessed via crossing a road which although it experiences only extremely light traffic (a few cars a day of local people accessing their homes) nonetheless care needs to be taken on exiting Les Remparts. 
  • COVID – On arrival each bedroom will contain some Instant Hand Sanitiser Antibacterial Gel 75% Alcohol.
  • Fire – No smoking/ naked flames in the house please including candles. The open fire in the Dining Room is not to be used. There are three wired smoke detectors throughout the property which are linked together and three fire extinguishers.
  • Gym – Use is restricted to adults only please with previous knowledge of how to safely use this equipment.
  • Log Burning Stoves – Ensure stoves doors are always closed. Do not burn anything other than natural wood. Do not leave the house unattended with a fire burning.
  • Minor Injury – there is a First Aid kit hanging in the kitchen beneath the TV. There is a pharmacy in the village and an English speaking doctor at Maison de Sante.
  • Open Windows – Open downstairs windows in unattended rooms may results in wild animals/ cats entering the house or theft of property.
  • Parking – Cars should not be left in front of the house if that makes the use of Rue du Chateau difficult or dangerous.
  • Power Cut – The house can be very dangerous at night without lights and two rechargeable torches are provided in the Hall and upstairs Back Landing in case of power cut.
  • Securing the Property – When you go out, please ensure that all doors and windows are closed and locked. Shutters may be left open.
  • Shutters – Opening and closing shutters can be dangerous and should not be attempted by children at first floor level. When shutters are open, they must be secured.
  • Strong Winds – Please lower any canopies and move lightweight untethered objects as appropriate. Ensure shutters are secured and windows and doors are closed.
  • Swimming Pool – The gate to the Courtyard is to always remain closed as it is a legal requirement in France that the swimming pool must not be accessible to unsuspecting members of the public. No glass to be taken on the raised area adjacent to the pool.
  • Terrace – The gate to the terrace should be kept always shut and children should only access with adult supervision.
